According to local witnesses, a 25-year-old man entered the Porto Madeiras River Beach (locally known as Prainha do Porto Madeiras) to cool off and attempted to swim across the river. During the crossing, he began struggling in the water and eventually disappeared beneath the surface. His pregnant wife, who was with him at the scene, witnessed the tragic moment.

A fisherman and other bathers tried to help, but they were unable to reach him in time. The Fire Department (Corpo de Bombeiros) and the Military Police (PM) were called around 4:00 p.m. to start the search and rescue operation.
After several hours, the firefighters located the victim’s body. Forensic teams from Politec (Official Forensic and Technical Identification Agency) and the Homicide and Protection Department (DHPP) also attended the scene to perform the necessary procedures.
